Holding Hands with Heroes by Jack Kassinger Offers a Riveting Journey from Vietnam to the CIA

Oct 14, 2026

United States, October 14, 2026 -- Author Jack Kassinger shares a remarkable story of military service, sacrifice, and dedication in Holding Hands with Heroes, a compelling memoir that follows his journey from a young enlisted Marine in Vietnam to a career with the Central Intelligence Agency.

Beginning with his experiences during Operation PIPESTONE CANYON in Vietnam, Kassinger recounts the events and challenges that shaped his life and eventually led him into the secretive world of American intelligence. His career exposed him to dangerous assignments and extraordinary operations across the globe.

Among the experiences detailed in the memoir are the rescue of four Mossad agents, the exfiltration of a company of Libyan soldiers seeking U.S. asylum, and an operation to protect a U.S. embassy from an angry mob. His actions during the embassy operation earned him one of the CIA's highest medals for valor under hazardous conditions.

Kassinger also describes his role in establishing a CIA station in a country engulfed in civil war and later assisting JSOC Special Forces during a rescue operation after the station came under hostile fire. In Somalia, during Operation Restore Hope, he helped deploy CIA assets and became one of the first to enter the war-torn city of Mogadishu as famine and instability threatened the region.

As his career progressed, Kassinger moved from field assignments to headquarters, where intelligence liaison operations became an important part of his work. Throughout the memoir, he reflects not only on the missions themselves, but also on the people, challenges, risks, and personal sacrifices that accompanied a lifetime of service.

Originally published by Dorrance Publishing in 2010, Holding Hands with Heroes is slated for reprint and release by MacMillan Press in early 2027.

Combining firsthand military experience, intelligence history, and personal reflection, Holding Hands with Heroes offers readers an inside perspective on a life defined by courage, perseverance, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to country.

Onifa gunning for hat-trick of MoonTrekker titles, despite long-term back injury

John ‘Stingray’ Ray Onifa will tackle the Barclays MoonTrekker on Friday, but he said it was “much more difficult” to talk about navigating Hong Kong’s hills and valleys than actually doing it. And that’s despite the Philippine star, who is considered one of the best trail runners in Asia, carrying a long-term back injury that still leaves him “feeling the pain”. Onifa also has a perfect record to defend, having won the 50-kilometre race on his debut in 2018 and the 40km version five years...

In 2014, Chris Green spent two days dressed as Hulk Hogan in Hong Kong Stadium’s riotous South Stand cheering for friend Cameron Clark during the rugby sevens. A modern-day gun for hire, the 33-year-old has played in virtually every franchise tournament going; from...
