United States, October 16, 2026 -- A startup can have a promising idea, a capable founder, and a market worth pursuing, yet still struggle because one crucial person is missing. It might be a technical co-founder, a commercial partner, an experienced professional, or the first customer willing to take a chance on an unfamiliar business.

For Ika, an Indonesian entrepreneur and founder of ConnectX, this is a question of access: who gets to meet the people who can help them build, grow, and move forward?
In 2026, Ika was selected as one of 30 women founders for HEX Generation Next, a regional initiative supported by the ASEAN-Australia Centre. The cohort was selected from more than 900 applicants, bringing together women entrepreneurs from across ASEAN and Australia. The recognition adds a regional dimension to her work, but the problem she is trying to solve began with conversations among founders in Indonesia.
From Personal Setback to a Business Idea
Before ConnectX, Ika was involved in technology ventures including WeFund and CodeXchain. In 2024, she divorced her former husband, who had also been her co-founder. After exiting their previous venture, she returned to Indonesia during a period she has described as one of the lowest points of her life.
Rather than immediately starting another company, Ika began rebuilding her professional life through community. She brought together people interested in business, careers, and professional development, creating spaces for founders and professionals to exchange experiences and help one another.
Through these conversations, a recurring problem emerged. Founders struggled to find co-founders. Business owners needed partners and customers. Startups lacked people with the skills to move their products forward. Others wanted investor introductions or opportunities beyond their existing networks.
The underlying challenge was clear: having the ambition to build a business did not automatically provide access to the people needed to make it happen.
Ika began introducing people manually through community activities and meetups. These introductions opened opportunities for collaboration, but they also revealed a limitation. Personal matchmaking could not scale indefinitely as the community grew.
That experience inspired ConnectX: using technology to make professional discovery more intentional and accessible.
What ConnectX Does
Think of ConnectX as a swipe-based discovery app for business and professional connections, borrowing a familiar interaction model from dating apps like Bumble but applying it to a different purpose: helping people find the right people to build with.
ConnectX helps founders, business owners, professionals, and builders discover potential co-founders, team members, collaborators, and business partners based on their professional backgrounds, skills, interests, and goals.
Instead of relying entirely on cold outreach or waiting to meet someone at an event, users can explore profiles and discover people who may be relevant to what they want to achieve. The goal is to make professional discovery more intuitive and help users find connections beyond their existing networks.
A founder looking for a technical co-founder could discover someone with complementary skills. A business owner seeking new customers or strategic partners could connect with people outside their usual circle. A professional could find founders and teams whose projects align with their expertise.
ConnectX combines this digital discovery experience with a wider community and in-person activities, giving members opportunities to develop relationships beyond the initial introduction. It is not a dating app or simply another place to collect contacts. Its focus is helping people discover professional relationships that could lead to collaboration, business opportunities, and growth. The mobile app is available to be download on PlayStore.
When Connections Become Business Opportunities
The value of a professional network is not simply the number of people in it, but whether members find relationships that help them move forward.
Bezie Galih Manggala, Strategic Advisor at Kata.ai and a business coach, describes the benefits ConnectX has brought through its curated community and activities.
“Founders in Indonesia really need a curated and trusted network of founders, investors, and professionals. Through ConnectX activities, we have met new leads and collaborators, and gained clients and transactions after connecting with high-value contacts. We have also learned a great deal from sharing information with other members.”
For Bezie, the value extends beyond introductions to include business knowledge and insights exchanged with other members.
Cycas Rifky, CEO of Kodegiri and CTSO of STAR Software Indonesia (SSI-G), highlights the value of cross-industry connections.
“I was introduced to ConnectX by Ika and immediately felt its impact on my business. The gatherings and networking events opened opportunities for collaboration with businesses from different fields. The diversity of business owners and community members makes the connections feel real and valuable, especially for companies like ours working in B2B AI integration and education, where networking and partnerships are important.”
Their accounts show the value members say they've gained from ConnectX's community and networking: a lead that opens a commercial conversation, a collaborator who moves a project forward, an investor introduction that opens funding doors.
But these are individual experiences, not proof that every connection produces a business outcome. ConnectX's next challenge is to measure its impact more systematically—how many introductions lead to clients, how often members find team members or partners, and which relationships create measurable commercial value.
Building Beyond Indonesia
Ika wants ConnectX to help founders discover opportunities across Southeast Asia and Australia, with a longer-term goal of connecting entrepreneurs across markets.
Cross-border growth takes more than an online connection. Entering new markets requires local knowledge, insight into customer behavior and business practices, and relationships with people who can help navigate unfamiliar environments. A local founder, distributor, industry specialist, or strategic partner can help assess whether an expansion opportunity is viable especially valuable for startups with limited resources.
Ika's selection for HEX Generation Next 2026 offers an opportunity to learn from women entrepreneurs across ASEAN and Australia, develop regional relationships, and explore potential collaboration beyond Indonesia. The program, supported by the ASEAN-Australia Centre, focuses on women founders and economic growth across the region.
For Ika, the opportunity aligns with ConnectX's purpose: helping people discover relevant connections beyond their existing networks. Selection is a milestone, not a business result. Long-term value depends on whether new relationships lead to real collaboration, whether regional insights shape the product, and whether ConnectX can prove its value beyond Indonesia.
The Work Ahead
Ika's journey from personal transition to community-building and a tech venture is deeply human. ConnectX's future depends on solving a recurring problem well enough that people choose it, return to it, and recommend it building trust, making discovery useful, showing measurable outcomes, and adapting across markets.
For founders and professionals, the benefit is finding people whose skills and goals complement their own without relying solely on existing networks. For the startup ecosystem, the question is whether intentional discovery can reduce dependence on closed networks and open opportunities to those who can build but lack introductions. That impact isn't proven yet.
Ika started by listening to founders, building a community, and testing manual connections. Now she must turn insight into a repeatable product that makes finding the right people easier. Her ambition: help more founders find those people and prove the right connection can be more than an introduction.

China’s top swimmers have returned to the pool following their dominant Asian Games display and once again put their competitors on notice with strong performances at the national championships. Li Bingjie reclaimed the women’s 1,500m freestyle short-course Asian record in style, clocking 15 minutes and 34.09 seconds to win gold on Monday. The 24-year-old shaved 4.32 seconds off the previous Asian mark of 15:38.41, set by Singapore’s Gan Ching Hwee just 11 days earlier. Li had held the record...
French football superstar Kylian Mbappe has issued an apology after an “ill-judged” comment about China sparked intense backlash on social media and led a string of major Chinese brands to cut ties with him. After a video began circulating widely online that appeared to show the France and Real Madrid striker making a controversial remark about former Chinese leader Mao Zedong, several Chinese firms including the dairy giant Mengniu announced they were pulling out of deals with him on...
Leading men’s doubles players have called on the ATP Tour to reconsider plans that would reduce the size of the doubles competitions at events and move prize money to the singles format. In a letter addressed to the ATP board and management and signed by 137 active players, 33 former players and 20 federations, the group said it understood the need for reform, but was deeply concerned about the plans being discussed. The ATP said this month it was reviewing potential changes to the size of...
Harry Kane is targeting Champions League glory for Bayern Munich and ending England’s wait for a major international tournament after lifting the Ballon d’Or in the highlight of his career to date on Monday. In his native London, Kane became the first English winner of the award in 25 years as he beat off competition from Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to be crowned the world’s best player. The 33-year-old was rewarded for a remarkable 73 goals in 65 games for club and country last season as he...
A new race blending urban and countryside views across Hong Kong will take place on Sunday, featuring the newly opened Fanling Bypass as the finish line for the full-marathon route. Organised by the New Territories Heung Yee Kuk to mark its 100th anniversary, the inaugural Northern Metropolis Marathon has drawn about 15,000 registered runners across four categories: the full marathon, half marathon, 10km and 1,600m races. Addressing safety concerns after a recent series of dog attacks in the New...
Hong Kong’s athletes were praised for producing “a beautiful harvest of medals” at this year’s Asian Games, and the success of the delegation’s younger members bode well for the future, the city’s leader said on Monday. A first tennis, a rugby sevens three-peat, combined with success on the water, in the pool, and on the squash court all led to a historic tally of 54 medals and a record number of gold over a fortnight in Japan. While the rise of the city’s younger athletes was in many ways a...
England captain Harry Kane is the favourite to win a wide-open race to be crowned Ballon d’Or winner at a glitzy London ceremony on Monday, with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe also in the running to be named the world’s best footballer. The 70th edition of the award, established by the magazine France Football, will be hosted in England for the first time in recognition of the first winner, Stanley Matthews, and fittingly could have a first English winner for 25 years. Bayern Munich striker Kane...
A decline in local turnover might have given Jockey Club boss Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges cause for concern to start the season, but a surge in wagering on overseas races has helped boost total turnover to a healthy figure. After 13 of 88 local meetings, total turnover on local and overseas races was up 12.5 per cent on last year to HK$24.8 billion. In his CEO blog published on the Jockey Club website before Sunday’s Sha Tin meeting, Engelbrecht-Bresges said wagering on Hong Kong racing was...
Asia’s answer to NCAA basketball has taken another big step forwards, with 18 universities weeks away from the start of a two-conference season. The teams involved in the Asian University Basketball League will play between November and April, with a championship week, similar to the sweet 16 or final four, pencilled in for next August. A 12-strong Eastern Conference and six-team Southern Conference will compete in a total of 54 games, with universities from 11 different places across the region...
Bustling City was one of two shock beaten favourites for David Hayes on one weekend, but the Australian Hall of Fame trainer is adamant the horse he declared “could be the new dirt king in Hong Kong” will bounce back on Wednesday night. Adding to the pain of Ka Ying Rising’s narrow The Everest (1,200m) defeat at Randwick on October 17, Bustling City was sent off the $1.4 favourite the following day at Sha Tin but couldn’t back up his explosive seven-length victory on his seasonal return. After...
Jordan Football Association president Prince Ali bin Hussein accused Fifa leader Gianni Infantino on Sunday of hijacking the Asian Football Confederation Congress for political purposes ahead of his re-election bid for a fourth term. At the AFC’s extraordinary congress in Tokyo on Friday, its president, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, endorsed Infantino’s bid for re-election as Fifa president. Months after the confederation accused Infantino of a “fundamental breach of trust” over the...
The list of Link Hong Kong Open winners has always read like an honour roll of golf’s great and good; on Sunday John Catlin added his name to that illustrious grouping and it might be that’s what finally broke through his steely exterior. Sitting with the trophy long after the crowds had gone home, Catlin read off the names of Greg Norman, Tom Watson, Rory McIlroy, Miguel Angel Jimenez and the rest, with the kind of dawning realisation that follows any major achievement. And while Tom McKibbin’s...
