AI Answer Benchmark Reveals Sources Behind Buyer Recommendations In AI Platforms

Sep 25, 2026

A newly published AI Answer Benchmark tracks which firms get recommended on six AI platforms when buyers research AI search providers, while documenting the outside sources those answers cite and publishing the methodology behind the results.

Phoenix, United States, September 25, 2026 /PressCable/ -- AI Search Engine Optimization has published its latest AI Answer Benchmark, measuring which firms six major AI platforms recommend when buyers research AI search services and which external sources appear in those answers. The open benchmark also publishes its question set, measurement window, answer counts, and methodology so the findings can be reproduced and compared over time.

More details are available at https://aisearchengineoptimization.com/ai-answer-benchmark-september-2026/

The report arrives as AI assistants move deeper into consumer research and purchasing decisions. Interactive Advertising Bureau research published in September 2026 found that 72% of consumers surveyed use general-purpose AI assistants for shopping-related decisions, illustrating how closely AI-generated recommendations are moving toward the point of purchase.

That growing role creates a measurement problem, says founder Phil Belleville noting that “AI visibility is not just about whether your website ranks.” Recommendations can change by platform, question, location, and measurement date, making isolated screenshots or visibility scores difficult to interpret. AI Search Engine Optimization says its benchmark is intended to replace those anecdotal signals with a repeatable measurement process.

The September measurement covered 26 buyer and research questions across ChatGPT, ChatGPT Web Search, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, and Bing Copilot during the seven days to September 16. It recorded 247 brand mentions involving 18 firms.

The source analysis showed that agency service pages were largely absent from the material AI platforms cited most often. Google documentation appeared in 21.7% of captured answers, followed by YouTube at 16.7%, while a review directory appeared in 9.7% and community threads in 8%. No agency service page reached the benchmark's 10 most-cited sources.

Visibility was concentrated on the brand side as well. The three most-named firms appeared in 53, 42, and 35 answers respectively, across a field of 18 firms. For businesses tracking AI search visibility, the agency argues that repeated recommendations across different buyer questions provide a stronger signal than an isolated appearance.

Crucially, the benchmark publishes the full question set, six platforms tested, seven-day measurement window, and denominators behind its percentages. It also leaves AI Search Engine Optimization's own lower position visible in the table. The firm says this disclosure is intended to make the findings reproducible rather than present the benchmark as a promotional ranking.

Bahrain GP in Malaysia: Antonelli aims to bounce back from ‘worst weekend’, faces rain test

Kimi Antonelli will have to deal with an unfamiliar track and potentially heavy rain as he aims to recover from the “worst weekend” of his 2026 Formula 1 title challenge. The unusually named Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia takes Antonelli and his rivals to a track Formula 1 last visited in 2017 – when he was 11 – in a race hurriedly added to the calendar because of the disruption caused by the Iran war. It will take place at the Sepang International Circuit, about 60 kilometres (35 miles) south...

‘Sometimes horses do that’ – Fownes relaxed as wayward Alpha Strike goes for back-to-back wins

Caspar Fownes was left scratching his head after Alpha Strike’s wayward win at Sha Tin last time out but is not expecting similar antics when he goes for back-to-back wins at Sha Tin on Sunday. The speedy son of I Am Immortal won his only start in Australia pre-import and made a winning local start last October before going winless in five subsequent runs. He returned this campaign as a much improved model, lowering the colours of Solid State in a devastating performance, despite wandering all...

Asian Games, day 13: Hong Kong sailors lead medal haul; Wong, rugby teams face gold chances

Hong Kong’s sailors had themselves a golden day at the Asian Games on Friday, while tennis star Coleman Wong Chak-lam has a shot at one of his own, although there is more at stake than just gold in his men’s singles final on Saturday. Victory over China’s Wu Yibing, whom he beat in the third round at the Games in Hangzhou, would earn Wong a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Wu also has that target in mind. Saturday could prove to be a historic one for Hong Kong’s athletes. The gold medals...

Hangzhou launch for Project B league in January just part of busy Chinese sports year

The newly founded basketball league Project B earlier this week announced the first stop of its inaugural global basketball grand prix: in Hangzhou in January next year. While the debut of the global basketball tour has seen a slight delay – from its intended start this November – and the announcement of the Chinese host city came months later than anticipated, Project B is one of many major sporting events to be held in mainland China between now and the end of next year. “China has always had...

David Eustace mulls international targets as Colourful King secures Group Three glory

David Eustace has not ruled out international targets for his crack sprinter Colourful King after he ran riot to win the Group Three National Day Cup (1,000m) at Sha Tin on Thursday. Sent off the $2.2 favourite, those who took skinny odds about Colourful King had very few worries, with the Blue Point galloper breaking well and sitting handy behind duelling leaders Beauty Waves and Magical Control. The latter won that argument handily at the 400m pole, but he was always being stalked by Colourful...

Manchester City scandal risks damaging Premier League’s booming global brand

The Premier League has won a lengthy legal battle with Manchester City over financial impropriety, but the consequences could leave lasting damage for a league that has long been the envy of world football. City face severe sanctions after being found guilty of more than 100 charges between 2009 and 2018, with an independent commission exposing “sham” contracts to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce costs by more than £900 million (US$1.2 billion). A hefty points deduction...
