Airport Tech – A Solution for the Muslim Marriage Crisis?

Nov 28, 2023

With digital dating, Muslim marriages fall apart as quickly as any. A promising solution blends contemporary tech and family values.

London, England, United Kingdom - November 28, 2023 —

Embracing secure Digital ID technology used by the government of Jersey, UK cinemas and certified for UK right-to-work checks, social entrepreneur Hajji Laird Mostafa founded Muslim Marriage Services (MMS) to address a need he sees as pressing in his community. “Worldwide, there are two billion Muslims, and around 300-400 million are single and keen to marry. We want to make it easier for them.”

Some challenges are universal, such as online fraud. That and a 42% divorce rate for Muslims in the UK and 31% amongst North American Muslim communities contribute to added shame and stigma for many individuals involved – and often their families. Finding another partner after a failed marriage can also be contentious.

By targeting students and young professionals and making them part of a uniquely secure online community, Hajji is confident about the impact his platform can make. "We are here to help Muslims find love built on trust and digital security. That's why MMS is the only matrimonial service on the planet to use Extended Validation Site Security Certification."

The software also manages DBS certificates, their international equivalents, and other documents accepted for background screening. Chaperones and guardians have long been part of the Muslim approach to matrimonial arrangement, and they too can be included – and validated – by the platform. Safeguarding, discreet monitoring, and exchanging photos and messaging are part of a robust system.

MMS is live, serving the UK, North America, Europe, and the Middle East. 50% of profits are directed towards supporting deprived global communities. The focus is very much on marriage, and with that in mind, future plans include live events where potential couples can meet. A partnership with Insightology (UK) also gives premium members access to emotional support on their journey to matrimony.

ENDS

About Us: Founded in 2018 by Hajji Laird Mostafa, MMS is the world's only Certified Social Enterprise Muslim matrimony brand. MMS was recognised as a 'Startup Nominee' at the 2019 Islam Channel Business Awards, highlighting its excellence and innovation. This early acknowledgement anticipated the groundbreaking progress that MMS would achieve in the field of Muslim matrimony. Yoti UK has developed a secure Digital ID app, which is used by the government of Jersey, the Improvement Service in Scotland, and as proof of age at UK cinemas and convenience stores. It is also certified by the UK government for right-to-work and background screening checks. They are a Certified B Corporation, verified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Frankie Lor sets Stormy Grove on path to Hong Kong Mile with Group Two Sha Tin Trophy test

Frankie Lor Fu-chuen is hoping last season’s Classic Cup winner Stormy Grove can pass his first test on the road to the Group One Hong Kong Mile when he tackles Monday’s Group Two Sha Tin Trophy (1,600m). The Toronado galloper soared from the back of the field to collect the second leg of last season’s Classic Series, before running a mighty race to finish third in the Hong Kong Derby (2,000m) behind Invincible Ibis. His season ended prematurely on his next start, however, as he bled from both...

Promising Chinese teen basketball player joins top US high school, sparking training debate

A top American high school snapping up a talented Chinese teen basketball player once deemed “too short” to represent the national team has sparked debate online about the country’s rigid training and selection criteria. Zhang Yuchen, who has drawn similarities to Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, left Guangzhou for Phoenix on Wednesday to join the CIA Bella Vista’s men’s basketball team. Winning both the Chipotle High School Basketball Nationals and the EYBL Scholastic titles last...

Sydney’s wet weather has Zac Purton more hopeful than confident in Ka Ying Rising

Persistent rain in Sydney has Zac Purton more hopeful than confident in Ka Ying Rising as the champion sprinter bids to defend his crown in the Group One The Everest (1,200m) at Randwick on Saturday. Purton is concerned about Ka Ying Rising’s ability to handle a wet track, with Randwick rated a heavy 8 on Thursday after heavy rain earlier in the week and more showers on Thursday. The world’s best racehorse has only raced on an official rain-affected track once in Hong Kong, winning the 2024...

The Six Kings Slam tennis tournament originally scheduled for October has been pushed back to late December, Fifa’s esports finals have been postponed, and officials are considering whether to move the Asian Cup to 2028, after the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia. ACL 2: Tai Po braced to face ex-England junior player on roll as coach in Far East

Mark Jackson was a good enough footballer to make 18 Premier League appearances for Leeds United; to play at Old Trafford, Goodison Park, Highbury and Anfield; and to keep the prolific Ian Wright off the scoresheet in an FA Cup victory over Arsenal. As a coach, he led Leeds’ under-18 and under-23 teams to league titles. None of that afforded Jackson a second crack at management in his native England, after his first chance with MK Dons lasted only 4½ months. Not for Jackson the mulligan that is...

Derby winner Massive Sovereign rolls back the years in dominant Happy Valley success

Former Hong Kong Derby winner Massive Sovereign rolled back the years with a devastating turn of foot to win at Happy Valley on Wednesday night and has Frankie Lor Fu-chuen dreaming of Group One targets. A dual winner in Ireland pre-import, the No Nay Never galloper was a revelation in his opening local starts, using a Class Three success as a stepping stone to Derby glory when trained by Dennis Yip Chor-hong in 2024. Injuries have plagued the six-year-old since, however, and he had only run...

Regulator expects Man City to face January showdown over breaches of Premier League rules

The chair of English football’s independent regulator has said he expects Manchester City’s appeal after being found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules to be heard by January. City, who have repeatedly maintained they are innocent of the charges, are currently top of the Premier League table with six wins out of six following their 3-0 win over Liverpool last weekend. No sanction has yet been announced, but City could face a heavy points deduction leading to...

Culprits found, say sorry after sparking flashpoint during WTT China Smash final

A table tennis team from Chinese Taipei have issued a formal apology on Wednesday after video footage confirmed two of their junior players accidentally triggered a camera flash that disrupted the men’s singles final at the WTT China Smash in Beijing. The incident had initially drawn heavy scrutiny on Japan’s newly crowned world No 1 Sora Matsushima, who was penalised with a yellow card for abruptly interrupting play to complain about the flash and subsequently accused by fans of using...

A place in university the next goal for Chinese athlete Chen Yujie, Asia’s fastest woman

Fresh from a dominant showing at the Asian Games, teenage track star Chen Yujie is balancing professional training for next year’s world championships with preparations for the national college entrance examinations, setting her sights on a local university. At the recently concluded 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, the 17-year-old bagged four medals before returning home to resume life in the final year of high school. Chen won gold medals in the 100m and two relays, and a silver in the...

Chris Waller admits ‘it looks a tough ask’ to beat champion Ka Ying Rising in The Everest

Chris Waller concedes “it looks a tough ask” to beat Ka Ying Rising as Sydney’s leading trainer bids to dethrone the Hong Kong champion with a dual-pronged assault on Saturday’s Group One The Everest (1,200m) at Randwick. New Zealand-born Waller will saddle top sprinter Joliestar and Angel Capital in the A$20 million (HK$109.87 million) feature, but he rates Ka Ying Rising as clearly the horse to beat despite the prospect of an unsuitable wet track. A sensational winner of 21 consecutive races,...
