United States, September 29, 2026 -- Smarta Functional Medicine, a telehealth functional medicine practice, is expanding its genetics-first thyroid approach for women who continue to experience symptoms associated with hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s despite receiving treatment or being told that standard thyroid laboratory results are within range.
“I built this practice because I refuse to let another woman be dismissed, gaslit, or told ‘everything is fine’ when it clearly isn’t,” said Marta Banuelos, MS, CNS, LDN, Founder of Smarta Functional Medicine.
Through its Thyroid Genetic Blueprint, the practice analyzes more than 134 genes across 36 health pathways and evaluates the findings alongside a patient’s symptoms, medical history and laboratory results. The expansion is designed to give patients another structured way to investigate factors that may be relevant to thyroid function and overall health, using genetic information alongside clinical data rather than as a stand-alone diagnostic tool.
The practice is dedicated to examining genetic pathways related to thyroid hormone conversion, immune regulation, nutrient processing and other biological functions that may influence how an individual responds to treatment. The practice uses this information to help guide further assessment and personalized care planning.
The approach is aiding women searching for answers to questions such as why hypothyroid symptoms are not improving on medication, why they may have normal thyroid labs but still have symptoms, or why Hashimoto’s symptoms won’t go away despite previous interventions.
