U.S.-Based Philanthropist Morad Shaker Expands “Operation Bangladesh” Humanitarian Access to Thailand

Apr 17, 2026

Bangkok, Thailand , April 17, 2026 -- April 16, 2026 - Morad Shaker, a U.S.-based philanthropist and founder of the Shaker Global Poverty Reduction Ecosystem, has announced the expansion of humanitarian access to Thailand under Operation Bangladesh, a flagship initiative originally developed to support under-served communities in Bangladesh and now being extended to selected countries across Asia.

Currently spending time in Thailand as a visitor, Morad Shaker has developed a strong appreciation for the country and its people, particularly their work ethic, humility, and sense of community. Over recent months, he has observed not only the resilience and dignity present across Thai society, but also the genuine way in which people value opportunities and show care and respect toward those who support them—an experience that created a deeper personal connection and contributed to his decision to extend access to this global humanitarian framework.

The expansion of Operation Bangladesh into Thailand marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the Shaker Global Poverty Reduction Program, an international initiative designed to support vulnerable populations through structured, non-commercial, and globally accessible systems.

Originally created with a focused mission in Bangladesh, Operation Bangladesh represents one of the foundational programs within the ecosystem. As the broader initiative evolves, key components of Operation Bangladesh are now being introduced to communities beyond their original geographic scope, including Thailand and other parts of Asia.

At the center of this initiative is a global humanitarian petition system, first developed under Operation Bangladesh to capture grassroots needs and perspectives. This system allows individuals and communities to express interest, share challenges, and seek inclusion in future humanitarian support structures.

Through this platform, individuals in Thailand may submit petitions not only for themselves but also on behalf of families, communities, villages, cities and broader population groups. The system is designed to respectfully amplify voices while maintaining a strictly humanitarian, non-political, and non-religious approach.

“This is not about bringing a program into Thailand,” said Morad Shaker. “This is about ensuring that people in Thailand—like people anywhere in the world—have access to a global humanitarian channel where their voices can be seen, heard, and considered.”

Morad Shaker is also the founder of the Shaker International Scholarship Programs (SISP), a U.S.-based nonprofit initiative that has been actively operating for approximately four years, primarily in Bangladesh. During this time, SISP has built a growing digital community of nearly half a million followers across its platforms and has provided forms of financial assistance and support to hundreds of students, along with multiple underprivileged families in vulnerable communities.

Much of this early community engagement and development contributed directly to the foundation and evolution of Operation Bangladesh, further strengthening its role within the Shaker Global Poverty Reduction Programs.

As part of its long-term vision, the Shaker Global Poverty Reduction Programs is designed not only to support vulnerable communities but also to contribute positively to national development efforts, with the intention of working in constructive alignment with government agencies. This includes creating pathways that may support job creation, encourage responsible investment opportunities, strengthen educational institutions, assist students, and contribute to broader social stability.

“The intention is not to replace or interfere with any government,” Morad Shaker added. “The intention is to support—to stand alongside nations and contribute, in a respectful and structured way, to the shared goal of reducing hardship and expanding opportunity.”

At this stage, the expansion of Operation Bangladesh access to Thailand is being introduced as a non-commercial, humanitarian initiative, with no immediate business operations, employment activities, or financial transactions taking place within the country. During his time in Thailand, Morad Shaker has been engaging closely with the local environment and communities to better understand how meaningful and sustainable support can be developed in the future. The platform remains globally accessible, and participation is voluntary, with early engagement taking place through digital channels.

Over the past several years, Morad Shaker has been developing a broader international structure that includes humanitarian outreach, scholarship programs such as SISP, and future global emergency response capabilities. The inclusion of Thailand reflects the continued expansion of Operation Bangladesh into new regions as part of a growing global humanitarian vision.

While Operation Bangladesh was originally designed with a specific national focus, its gradual expansion reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that opportunities remain accessible wherever there is readiness, participation, and alignment with the initiative’s humanitarian principles.

“As someone who believes that serving people is a universal responsibility, I see Thailand not as a place of operation, but as a place of connection,” said Morad Shaker. “This is simply an open door—nothing more, nothing less.”

Individuals in Thailand who wish to express interest in Operation Bangladesh and the Shaker Global Poverty Reduction Programs may do so through the Shaker global petition system as the initiative continues to expand.

North Korea’s weightlifters target Olympic gold rush after world record haul at Asian Games

North Korea’s weightlifters will flex their considerable collective muscle when they return to the Olympics for the first time in 12 years at Los Angeles in 2028 – and they could be in for an American gold rush if the Asian Games are any indication. The secretive nation has been the dominant force in global weightlifting since emerging from self-imposed Covid exile to smash six world records at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023. They also won six golds. At the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan...

Billie Jean King says reforming tennis ‘a challenge’ as schedule sparks burnout concerns

Tennis legend Billie Jean King and two former professionals acknowledged modern players are suffering from burnout, but believed any change would be affected by the differing needs of elite players and rest, and the commercial pressure of tournaments. At present, WTA rules say players ranked in the top 30 must compete in all grand slams and ten WTA 1000 tournaments, and skipping these events results in ranking penalties and heavy financial fines that directly damage world standings and core...

Karis Teetan buoyed by Galaxy Patch’s development and trial ahead of Celebration Cup

Karis Teetan is confident Galaxy Patch can replicate his stable debut for Brett Crawford late last season and figure prominently when he returns in Sunday’s Group Three Celebration Cup (1,400m) at Sha Tin. A multiple Group winner and Group One placegetter for Pierre Ng Pang-chi, Galaxy Patch made an impressive first appearance for Crawford in the Group Three Premier Cup (1,400m) in June when he stormed home for a close second to Little Paradise. There is a 4lb swing on that race in favour of...

Asian Games, day 7: Hong Kong guaranteed gold medal in squash, China rule roost in diving

The battle for mixed doubles gold in squash will be an all-Hong Kong affair at the Asian Games on Sunday, after the city’s duos both won their semi-finals on a day when the city’s athletes picked up another three bronze medals and some semblance of normality returned to table tennis. With swimming finally over at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, it was the turn of the divers to take centre stage, and to the surprise of absolutely no one, China won the two gold medals on offer on Saturday, the first of...

Japan esports whizz kid ‘feels a bit embarrassed’ after winning Asian Games gold

Japan’s 11-year-old esports prodigy Yuki Kurihara said he was “embarrassed” after winning Asian Games gold on Saturday by thrashing a series of opponents up to three times his age. The bespectacled primary school student, believed to be the youngest competitor at the Games in Aichi-Nagoya, won the Puyo Puyo Champions final 10-2. He is the youngest athlete in host country Japan’s Asian Games history. Puyo Puyo Champions is a puzzle game where players try to clear their screen of coloured blobs by...

Excited by the opportunity to reunite with Invincible Ibis, Luke Ferraris hopes the Hong Kong Derby (2,000m) hero can launch his latest campaign with a bang in Sunday’s Group Three Celebration Cup (1,400m) at Sha Tin. It has been 12 months since the South African jockey rode Mark Newnham’s promising galloper to his third placing from as many starts, with the son of Hellbent then reeling off four straight victories to emerge as a serious Classic Series contender. He followed up a second to Stormy...

What’s so Chinese about US Open tennis players like Zheng Qinwen?

“Woo-hoooo!” The cheers swirled as Wu Yibing ended the rally with a blistering forehand winner down the line. The first syllable was emphatically articulated, signalling that this was an intentional play on Wu’s last name, not a random shout after one too many honey deuces. It was Wu’s second-round match against Australian James Duckworth at the US Open earlier this month. Wu’s most vocal supporters turned out to be three white Americans sitting behind the baseline. Widely considered the most...

Manchester City ready to fight Premier League after reports club guilty of 100-plus charges

Manchester City plan to fight the Premier League for months if found guilty of alleged financial breaches in potentially the biggest scandal in English football history. Reports on Friday said an independent panel had upheld nearly all of the 100-plus financial charges against the club in a case that was initiated more than three years ago. City did not confirm the decision, saying their case with the Premier League was “ongoing”. City, however, would appeal against a guilty decision and the...

Improved Zhang Zhanshuo, rising Yu Zidi headline China’s swimming hopes for 2028 Olympics

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games may only be halfway through, but the swimmers checked out of the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Friday. An extended rest was probably too much of a luxury for most of them with the Swimming World Cup just around the corner. A trio of three-day meets in Baku, Tashkent and Astana from the start of next month will also act as qualifiers for the short course World Aquatics Swimming Championships, which run in Beijing from December 1 to 6. Four swimmers, two each from Japan and...

Sitting on a lane divider, the 19-year-old Zhang counted out the golds with his fingers to mark the moment after cruising to the 400 metres freestyle title in a Games record of three minutes, 41.28 seconds, ‌with Japan’s Kazushi Imafuku a distant runner-up. Having already won the 200m, 400m and 1,500m...

After 50,000km, British around-the-world walker faces final hurdle – at his home doorstep

After 28 years and 50,000 kilometres (31,000 miles), a British adventurer is facing one last hurdle in his bid to trek home from South America without using any form of transport: the Channel. “We thought we got permission to swim from the coast of France. Turned out that is not the case,” Karl Bushby, a former paratrooper, said as he walked towards Cap Blanc-Nez in northern France, within sight of the white cliffs of the English coast. “There was some internal confusion. So, right now we’re...

Uzbekistan gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, 51, defies the years in Asian Games final

Showing that age is not a constraint, 51-year-old Uzbekistan gymnast Oksana Chusovitina capped off her seventh Asian Games appearance with a fifth-place finish – 32 years after her first appearance at the regional event. Competing against athletes young enough to be her daughter, Chusovitina – who made her bow at the 1994 Hiroshima Games – more than held her own in the women’s vault artistic gymnastics final. Among the 19 athletes competing in the women’s vault on Thursday, 12 were under 21...
